Cumberland Empowerment Zone Corporation
Technical Assistance Program

Whether you are an existing business owner or thinking of starting a new business, proper planning is the key to success. A detailed business plan assists owners and entrepreneurs to track their company's growth and development. Planning for your business also helps identify problems in advance. The Cumberland Empowerment Zone (CEZC) has experienced staff available to provide the information and training you need to operate a successful business.

Business Assistance Center

The CEZC operates the Business Assistance Center (BAC) at the One Stop Career Center in Vineland, New Jersey. The BAC currently contains computers complete with business software, along with an informative library of periodicals and research texts on various subjects such as business management, marketing and accounting. Entrepreneurs will find the BAC invaluable in researching and drafting a business plan. Existing business owners will likewise benefit from the extensive information available at the BAC. A conference room is also available for use. The BAC is open to the public at large and there is no cost associated with its use.

Technical Assistance

Ongoing technical assistance is crucial to the development of any business. In December 2008, the CEZC partnered with the Small Business Development Center at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey (SBDC). Local partners include County of Cumberland, City of Bridgeton, City of Millville, CDC, Cumberland County Office of Employment and Training, and the Cumberland County Improvement Authority. Under the partnership, the SBDC provides expanded technical assistance and training services to existing and new businesses within Cumberland County, as well as customized technical assistance in the form of counseling and training at the BAC or onsite with business clients. The SBDC is available for businesses and entrepreneurs to receive counseling and training assistance with business plans, credit repair, loan packaging, market identification, marketing and general business operation questions. The SBDC offers workshops in English and as need in Spanish. All trained and counseled clients are provided with information about Cumberland County economic development resources and programs, and receive follow up program information provided by program partners.

Technical assistance is offered at the BAC office by appointment only. Contact Carol Waties at 609-347-2174 or the CEZC office at 856-459-1700.
